Gernetic's NUCLEA
A great product to use in an Age Maneagent Regime, particluarly when combined with dermal rolling .

Everyone, regardless of age, wants to look and feel young and fresh. To combat the signs of ageing, Nucléa is a light-texture repairing cream with exceptional regenerating properties. It dramatically reduces
the depth of wrinkles and scars. Nucléa contains nutritional elements that are essential for cell division, cell growth and for the restoration of damaged or prematurely aged skins. It regularizes pigmentation or de-pigmentation problems arising from a chaotic melanin production. It is also ideal for sun-damaged skins and has a healing and anti-inflammatory action. It really is a must-have product for aging skin.

In the evening, after cleansing your face, roll with a .3mm cosmetic roller then use Nucléa over Synchro, in a very small quantity on the areas that need more regeneration such as wrinkles and scars. Nucléa can be used two or three times a year in courses of one jar.

Some Interesting Facts and Stats regarding Nutition

Mineral deficiencies are an increasingly common issue and have, in fact, been found to affect up to 80% of people in Australia and New Zealand.

Data from the 1995 National Nutrition Survey suggests that less than 50% of people under the age of 40 years old are achieving the recommended daily intake for fruit, while only 52% of men and 45% of women aged between 25 and 44 years are consuming their recommended intake of vegetables.2 These statistics indicate that the modern diet is lacking in important plant-based constituents including hormetic phytochemicals.

Thomson CD. Selenium and iodine intakes and status in New Zealand and Australia. Br J Nutr. 2004; 91(5):661-72.
NHMRC. Dietary Guidelines for Australian Adults. 2003 http://www.nhmrc.gov.au/_files_nhmrc/file/publications/synopses/n33.pdf.

Comprehensive dietary assessment and intervention has always been a cornerstone of holistic patient management. The unfortunate truth, however, is that optimising nutritional status is no longer a simple task, and may in fact be one of the greatest challenges that we face as Practitioners.

Fruit and Vegetables – Staple or Add-On?
The extent of the Western population's nutritional depletion becomes increasingly apparent when we compare the modern diet to that of our Paleolithic ancestors. For example, it is estimated that 65% of the hunter-gatherer's dietary intake was comprised of fresh seasonal foods, including seasonal fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. This is a far cry from the typical Western diet in which fruits and vegetables have become more of an 'added extra' rather than a staple, comprising a mere 7.8% of total food intake.3

What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger!
Fruits and vegetables provide a variety of plant-based compounds known as phytochemicals. These secondary metabolites are synthesised in response to environmental stressors in order to protect the plant from damage. Emerging research suggests that phytochemicals play a significant role in the human body through their ability to act as low-dose stressors which activate the body's cellular stress response, a process known as hormesis. It is the activation of protective pathways which allow our bodies to function to their full capacity and resist disease.

The use of whole food powder extracts to supplement a diet lacking in fruit and vegetables may be an effective method of providing the necessary levels of phytochemicals to elicit a hormetic response. Antioxidant and Superfood Powder is a combination of organic green tea, berries, spirulina, fruit and vegetables to support health and wellbeing. Naturally occurring phytochemicals, such as quercetin, catechins and sulforaphane may promote the expression of cytoprotective genes that induce phase 2 detoxification, provide antioxidant defence and assist in cellular repair.4,5

Overfed and Undernourished
There is no shortage of food in our Western society, yet there is an avalanche of data which suggests that deficiencies in key minerals are becoming epidemic in both Australia and New Zealand. For example, it is estimated that over 25% of males and 50% of females are not meeting their daily requirements for calcium. Why then are our patients so overfed, yet so undernourished?

Nutrient Poverty on the Plate
Many Australians are not meeting the recommended daily intakes (RDIs) for several minerals including calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron. With soils being particularly low in trace minerals, zinc, selenium and iodine, even the most conscientious patients making optimal food choices may well be left with inadequate nutrients on their plates, particularly if consuming food grown in Australian or New Zealand soils. Dieting, following a vegetarian diet, and consuming processed foods may also account for poor intakes of certain nutrients, while modern food processing and preparation techniques further deplete vital nutrients from the food we eat.

More on Dermal Rolling

Important, Breakthrough Information Regarding Dermal Rolling.

As you are probably well aware we are passionate about dermal rolling and why not an
inexpensive, non-invasive, highly effective little tool that has a multitude of benefits for
your skin. Naomi did a lot of research and trials before settling on the green .05 mm
rollers that we sell but in a never ending quest for optimum results we have come
across some important research that has changed the rolling protocols we had previously
advised.

Based on the research of Dr Lance Setterfield M.D. who has been researching skin rolling
for over 5 years we are advising that you only roll with the .05 roller once a month,
that’s right once a month!
The reason being is that this length of needle is the length that causes a micro trauma by
creating minute punctures in the skin at the basal layer resulting in a mild inflammation
response that initiates collagen induction. Rolling with this length of needle will also
stimulate the skin’s wound healing mechanism consisting of anti – fibrotic, pro –fibrotic,
inflammatory cytokines and collagenase.

Rolling more than once a month with the 0.5 will cause collagenase to be permanently
peaked and this will break collagen down as fast as you make it. Collagenase is a protein
that attacks the protein bonds of collagen hence destroying it. Treating once a month
allows the healing cascade to follow the normal pathway. Also too frequent rolling with a
0.5 results in too much of a inflammatory response, and we want to minimize this.
But remember there is more to rolling than just collagen production, there is a great
textural improvement in the skin, increased product absorption and increased
circulation. These benefits can be obtained by using a 0.3 mm roller (cosmetic roller)
4 times per week without creating any trauma to the skin.

In summation our new rolling protocols are

Roll or have a Salon treatment once a month with a 0.5mm roller
to stimulate collagen production, treat deep lines and scarring.
• Use a 0.3 mm 4 times per week to increase micro circulation, improve product
absorption and the texture of the skin.

Feeling Great!

You might be interested in wondering why Naomi is throwing her arms up in joy, no not because it is Australia Day. This day marked the last day of a 2 week cleanse John and Naomi went through. Following the Lean And Clean eating plan for 2 weeks by James Duigan. (Elle McPherson's trainer and food coach) After coming back from our 10 day break, we weren't feeling as energised as usual. We were eating sweets every day. You wouldn't think it would make a difference as we only had 1 drink alcohol over this time. However If the body is tired and over worked either mentally, physically or emotionally it is fatigued and not functioning at its optimum. Refined foods can slow digestion down and make everything sluggish. Over the years we have detoxed and have been through different fasts, juicing and cleanses to purify the body, mind and for increased energy, wellness and vitality. We love to see how the body responds to eliminating refined sugars, caffeine. Well that all had to go even from the 1 a day the chai I was having with some honey, yes all sugars even fruit. You see our body was made to be lean and clean so eliminating all complex carbohydrates and sugars of all sorts our body naturally will feel cleaner and lighter. You will get your sweetness from all the dark leafy greens. Doesn't sound so crash hot does it? But what I noticed is that once you have made the decision that you want to feel better you will be committed. I noticed my will power increase ten fold. It does strengthen the disciple factor, as you naturally want to see it through.
So now a week later, I haven't had bread, or rice and even better , have not wanted to eat sweet things. James recommended to have a naughty dessert once a week. So of course we went with that. Chocolate gelato and mouse hit the spot. We so appreciated James's approach. Busting my sugar craving after dinner has gone, amazing! However it does make sense to increase my protein intake with every meal and eat omega 3 essential fatty acids daily, 3000 mg or 5ml of liquid helps curb cravings and gets rid of a bloated belly. It increases your metabolism so you'll loose fluid and excess weight. If your digestion isn't working properly it's harder to burn fat. James says any one can have a flat tummy at any age. Just tweaking your diet and exercise can give you fast results. Yes it is a commitment. But it's so worth it. If your health isn't one of your top priorities, consider making some changes this new year. Live life with bursting radiance, vitality and joy.

More on EFA'S

Essentials for Glowing Skin, Hair and a Lot More!
Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s)
Essential fatty acids are a special group of oils that are required by the body for a wide range of metabolic functions. They have a proven therapeutic effect on inflammatory conditions, cardiovascular health, mood regulation as well as development and maintenance of a healthy central nervous system, important stuff! The only source to obtain EFA’S is via the diet in the form of alpha- linolenic acid (ALA) or topical application. The body has to convert (ALA) into 2 main other acid chains Omega 3 and Omega 6 these are then converted to (EPA), (DHA) and (GLA). However this conversion depends on enzymes that are prone to metabolic interference from lifestyle factors such as

Diets rich in sugar, alcohol, trans fats from processed foods
Smoking and Pollution
Stress and Aging
Viral infections and other illnesses such as diabetes

Essential Fatty Acids are divided into two families Omega 3 and Omega 6

Omega 6 essential fatty acids are Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA). Prostaglandin Essential 1, (PGE1) is found in direct sources in mothers milk, spirulina. Oils from evening primrose, black current seeds, borage seed: seeds of maple, sycamore and related trees. Plant seed oils such as sunflower, safflower, Soya, corn and maize oils.

Some symptoms of Omega 6 deficiencies are :
· dry skin, eyes and hair
· eczema like skin eruptions
· arthritis like joint pain
· water loss through the skin with attendant thirst

Omega 3 essential fatty acids are converted by the body’s enzymes into the fatty acids we know as EPA and DHA. Our brains contain 60% fat and the predominant fat in the brain is DHA. DHA is necessary for brain development, retention of information, our memory and visual acuity. Omega 3 disperses platelet aggregates in the blood thereby reducing the risk of coronary heart disease. Omega 3 EFA’S also produce the anti-inflammatory prostaglandin 3 (PGE3) which lowers the risk of rheumatoid arthritis and arthritis and inflammatory skin conditions such as Rosacea. This is a direct result as EPA is the main ant-inflammatory component of fish oil. EPA will also assist to improve mood regulation as EPA may also be beneficial in managing neurological inflammation.

Direct sources of omega 3 EFA’S are found in fish oil. These are an excellent source of EFA’S. Oily fish such as Mackerel, Salmon, Tuna, Sardines, Trout, Anchovies, Kippers, Whitebait, Herring, Swordfish, Monkfish, John Dory, Sea Bream, Marlin, Sea Bass, Dover Sole, Red And Grey Mullet, Halibut, Plaice, Red Snapper, Butter Fish, Pilchard, Eel and Anchovies. Small amounts are found in dark green leafy vegetables, the seeds of flax, chai, pumpkin, walnuts, soy products and Mother’s milk.

Some symptoms of Omega 3 deficiencies include:
· behavioural changes
· high triglycerides / cholesterol
· water retention
· dry and scaly skin, unresponsive skin, skin that feels oily but isn’t
· skin break outs that don’t heal
· eczema, dermatitis
· low metabolic rate and low energy
· some kinds of immune dysfunction
· inadequate glandular performance
· premature ageing
· hormonal imbalances from menopause of weight gain to premenstrual tension
· stiff joints
· continual cracked lips

Essential fatty acid deficiency (EFAD) affects cells and tissues throughout the entire body, no part of the body can function without EFA’s. EFA’s have a great affinity to epidermic lipids (oils in the skin), cellular membranes and have therapeutic qualities that can treat eczema, dermatitis, lipid dryness, itchyosis. EFAD will also cause a reduction in the formation and production of prostaglandins (PGE1,2,3). Prostaglandins are hormone-like substances that regulate many of the body’s functions. Each cell type or organ produces its own form of prostaglandin to carry out its functions as they are regulators of cell activity they are essential for maintaining health. Prostaglandin influences include heart rate regulation, blood pressure regulation, blood clotting, skin reactions, (eczema, psoriasis), fertility and conception.
The most important to the skin being prostaglandin 3, which will result in cellular inflammation if not regulated via adequate intake of EFA’S.
Supplementation can reverse symptoms of essential fatty acid deficiency when taken daily as they are the basic building blocks of body fats, biological membranes and prostaglandins.

Why Good Fat Is Good. Can you appreciate now when the mention fat it is the good type. As the above information has shown not all fats are equal. EFA’S are a type of fat that makes you slim, energised and younger looking. Good fat burns stored fat as it turns on the fat burning cell and hence gives you a flatter stomach and a smaller waist.
Good fats prevent you from over eating by telling your brain when to stop. You literally cannot binge on good fat because it fills you up. So snack on good fat with every single meal. Fat slows the rate at which sugar hits your blood stream and this allows your blood sugar levels to remain steady, keeping hunger and cravings at bay. A diet rich in EFA’s will keep you slim, energised with a beautiful glowing complexion and a great sense of wellbeing. So keep away from low fat food products they are often void of nutrients. It’s the sugar that makes you fat and creates wrinkles by attaching itself to collagen fibres (the stuff that keeps your skin plump and youthful), when collagen breaks down the skin loses elasticity, sugar helps to speed up this process.

We recommend Metagenics Fatty Acids products because
They are

sourced from small fish using eco fishing and sustainable practices.
Ultra-pure with added antioxidants to preserve oils.
Nitrogen flushed to reduce oxidation of oils.
High potency and concentration for once a day dosing.
Pleasantly flavoured liquids and capsules to reduce fishy taste.
